At NSS we encourage clients to work their way to consuming half of their body weight in ounces of water per day.
While this initially will noticeably increase your trips to the restroom, the benefits of water far outweigh these more frequent trips to the lavatory.
Body weight in pounds _______ x .5 = ______ ounces/day.
Why?
Water intake helps to maintain the balance of body fluids.
Water intake helps maintain bodily functions such as digestion, circulation, and transportation of nutrients.
Water intake helps to control the consumption of liquid calories.
Water helps your skin to look and feel better.
Water is crucial to kidney function and the excretion of wastes.
Water consumption helps to regulate body temperature.
While after doing the math it may seem like you have a ways to go, trust us...it's worth slowly and steadily pursuing. Don't think of it like a light switch, where all of the sudden you are drinking the magical (and right!) amount of water per day.
Rather find ways to get "more" each day until "more" becomes the norm and the norm become that magical half your body weight in ounces.
The best way to do this...
First - dig out your favorite water bottle you have in that water bottle drawer we all seem to have.
Second - Fill it up.
Third - Keep it by you.
Simply having that at your desk, on your nightstand, in the car, at the dinner table, at the gym, and at the kids sporting events will naturally have you drinking more water each day.
Cheers!
